Chien Kun Foundation was founded in October 2004 by a
group of Chinese Americans as a non-political, non-religious, and
non-for-profit cultural organization. Seeing the rise of China, as well
as the global interest in learning the Chinese language and culture,
as a historic timing and opportunity for overseas Chinese, the
Foundation aims to be the bridge for communication, exchange,
and understanding between the cultures of east and west.
Since its establishment, C.K. Foundation has organized many
meaningful cultural events and activities. In particular:
The 2007 China Learning Tour, a 4-week program in China for
participants to authentically experience its rich culture and history.
A cultural and historical exhibition held in 2005, depicting the great
15th century sea voyages of the Chinese admiral Zheng He, largest
in scale and spanning the longest period of time in world maritime
history, yet little known to the western public.
A Centurial Retrospection Exhibition, illustrating the insight of
recent Chinese history dating from the Opium Wars to the 10th
Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return in 2007.
Chien Kun also introduces the young generations to the common
knowledge, characteristics, value system, and the virtue of Chinese
culture. For example, traditional Chinese holidays, tea culture, the
classical Chinese philosophy of harmony, as well as Confucian
teachings of propriety and music.
Moreover, Chien Kun integrates the traditional Chinese concept of
heaven, earth, and mankind as oneness with the modern western
concept of environmental protection toward its concern and
contributions for the protection of our earth and natural environment.
The Foundation has been active with main stream events such as
Earth Day and World Vegetarian Month, as well as promoting
environmental protection among the Chinese community.
Chien Kun Magazine, a cultural journal published by C.K.
Foundation, sees beyond current affairs by reflecting on the history
and cultures of the east and west, has won appreciation from
readers. As the only Chinese-English publication selected, the
magazine has been entered into the Academic Search Complete,
the world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly,
multi-disciplinary full-text online database.
In order to meet the new demands of the information age, C.K.
Foundation is building a broad scale cultural platform by
incorporating ancient wisdom with modern technology. Currently,
Chien Kun Magazine is undergoing the process of full digitalization
and internet publishing. As a window into Chinese culture, C.K.
Foundation will do its best to extend its cultural platform among the
U.S. and China, and to serve as a more solid bridge for the two
cultures.
