The Legend of Qilin
The Qilin (pronounced: chhi-lin, Chinese: 麒麟;
pinyin: qílín) is a legendary mystical creature.
Qilin has unique form: the body of a deer with a
multicolored coat and a yellow belly, a horn on its
forehead, hooves of a horse, and the tail of an ox.
As a symbol of great virtue, Qilins are said to
appear only in places reigned by a benevolent
ruler, usually seen at the birth or death of an
emperor or of a wise one. This peaceful and gentle
creature can walk on water and walk on grass
without squashing it. Since Qilins are kind in
nature, they eat no meat and make an effort to
prevent themselves from stepping on any living
creature. Qilins may look intimidating; however
they are only harmful to those who are sinful or
those threatening the pure-hearted. To have a Qilin
appear is a heavenly omen that brings rui
(Chinese: 瑞; pinyin: ruì) meaning "fortunate".

The Qilineers
Named after the mystical Qilin, which is known as the most
benevolent animal in ancient China, Qilineers love the nature

麒麟的傳說
麒麟是中國古代神話傳說中的神獸，據說能活兩千年。
雄的名麒，雌的名麟，合稱麒麟。性情溫和，不傷人
畜，不踐踏花草，故稱為仁獸。麒麟的形狀像鹿，尾
似牛尾，麒有獨角，麟無角，口能吐火，聲音如雷。
中國古代用麒麟象徵祥瑞。相傳只在太平盛世，或世
有聖人時此獸才會出現。
