The shock waves of the May 12th Sichuan quake shook up the world. Life seemed so fragile in the
face of catastrophe, and yet one after another touching stories encouraged numerous souls. The
victims' spirit was superb, and the rescuers' courage was unsurpassed. The nobly great spirit of the
Chinese people was illustrated through their flesh and blood.

After the heat waves of fundraising for the quake relief works, all kinds of long-term help projects are
being initiated. The New York non-profit Chien Kun Foundation's volunteers have scheduled to make a
visit to the Sichuan quake region in July. They will help collect more information on the catastrophe
region. The information will be helpful for those in America who wish to lend a hand with the long-term
rebuilding efforts.

Preparation works are currently under way. We welcome more volunteers to join our trip to Sichuan, or
simply assist and participate in our fundraising and comforting cards activity.

1. We are currently inviting comforting cards to be taken to the children and students at the quake
region. We hope parents, teachers, schools and all who care will encourage kids and students to
participate in this activity. Write down good wishes or feelings to those children in Sichuan; send them
your caring love, and establish friendship.

2. Fundraising: All donations will be used for purchasing needed items for the quake victims or
comforting gifts for the children at the region. Our volunteer members will make a direct delivery to the
region at their own personal costs. Not a penny from the donations will be used for their trip expense to
Sichuan, or for anything else besides the stated purpose.

3. All those who wish to join us on this trip to Sichuan are welcome. The trip duration will be 10-days or
up to two weeks. All at your own cost. Please contact us for actual itinerary.

*Comforting cards must be self-made or purchased by participators, completed with relevant
writings/drawings in Chinese or English, and then mail to Chien Kun Foundation (see the address
below), on or before 2008.7.17.

Earthquake Beauty

A little girl was rescued after being trapped for thirty
two hours. She called herself Song Chin Xuen and
was only three years old. When she was rescued
she was wearing two little pigtail. Asides from the
little scab the size of a coin that left on her right
forehead, her face was covered with just a little dust
Her fine and pretty face was just too adorable. As
she was quickly carried in a stretcher by the
rescuers treading over hills to the ambulance, even
Premiere Wen who came to inspect the disaster
area had to yield to her! After she arrived at Nanjing,
what broke the people’s heart was the amputation
that took away her right leg forever. But, it is her
worry free and carefree childlike innocence that
inspire the love from the masses. She is an orphan
that the whole world roaring sought to protect.
